Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a demand to include fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely that year
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
